Vijay Divas is celebrated to commemorate the great victory of our armed forces during the Indo-Pak War 1971. It was on 16th December 1971 when about 93000 Pakistani soldiers were taken POW in East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh) consequent to the biggest ever surrender, by the Pakistan Army, there. The ABPSSP took the initiative to celebrate this victory for the first time in 1996 when the President of India initiative the programme by paying homage to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. Awareness about national security, as also, imparting knowledge about our Defence Services and inculcating priode in the minds of citizen of our country, is the main purpose of celebrating this day.
